August 2010, Islamabad. Employees of COMSATS Internet Services (CIS) demonstrated their compassion for the flood victims of Pakistan by donating one day of their salary. CIS also donated part of its last month’s profits to the flood victims. COMSATS Peshawar office used these donations to make 1000 packs of dry food. These packs were handed over to many camps in Charsadda for distribution to flood victims in many villages around Charsadda. In addition, COMSATS Headquarters collected donations from different employees and purchased and delivered 2500 kgs of rice to an NGO in Islamabad. The NGO cooked and distributed the food to different flood victims around Nowshera and Charsadda.
Telehealth
COMSATS Tele-Health Program started with the launch of a pilot project at Gujar Khan in 2001 with indigenous resources and self learning efforts. Specialists at COMSATS Headquarters in Islamabad provided medical opinion to patients present at Gujar Khan clinic. A number of consultations in the fields of Paediatrics, General Medicine, Dermatology were provided. A Dialup connection, Netmeeting and indigenously developed telemedicine equipment like e-stethoscope, otoscope were used. About 100 students also received training on information technology through distance learning under this Tele-Health/Distance Learning Program.
